The YWCA of Canberra has been providing community services and representing women’s issues in the Canberra community since its establishment in 1929. We currently work with approximately 4,500 Canberrans through the delivery of 28 quality programs, across 20 physical locations, in the areas of children’s services, community development, housing, youth services, personal and professional training, and women’s leadership.
The YWCA of Canberra is part of a national and international women’s movement. In Australia the YWCA is established in all states and territories and delivers services to more than a quarter of a million women, men and children through over 100 sites across rural, regional and metropolitan areas. Internationally, the YWCA is one of the world’s largest women’s organisations with representation in 125 countries and a global outreach of 25 million women and girls.
There are 30 YWCA Associations throughout Australia committed to improving the lives of women and their families. Local YWCAs are affiliated to YWCA Australia, and the World YWCA unites and coordinates 95 affiliated national associations.
As part of the international movement the YWCA of Canberra seeks to play its part in working for a world where reconciliation, justice, peace, health, human dignity, freedom and care for the environment are promoted and sustained through women’s leadership.
